Kenyon Hands Big Red Its Second Loss

Kenyon got five goals from Jane Symmes and six assists from Leah Sack. That was enough to lead the Ladies to a 15-10 victory over the Big Red at Piper Stadium.

Eleven minutes into the contest, Denison held a 4-3 lead after a pair of goals from Lizzy Pellicane and one each by Erin Keller and Carol Allen. The remainder of the first half would belong to Kenyon as they scored five of the next six goals, to take an 8-5 lead into the intermission.

In the second half Denison needed to take back momentum and they got things going early with goals by Pellicane and Keller in the first six minutes of the period. Now trailing 8-7 it appeared to be the time the Big Red would make its run at the Ladies. Kenyon had other plans as they would rattle off a 5-0 run that spanned nine minutes and featured three goals by Symmes.

Keller, Molly Chapman and Pellicane would all score again before the final buzzer but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Denison and Kenyon tied with 30 shots and 18 ground balls apiece. The Ladies held an 18-9 advantage in draw controls. Kenyon goalie Meredith Bentsen finished with 12 saves while Denison's Grace Bodenmann tallied 10 saves for the Big Red.

Pellicane led Denison with four goals and one assist while Keller added three goals and one helper. She also posted three caused turnovers, two draw controls and two ground balls. Powel paced Denison with five draw controls and four caused turnovers. Chapman ended with two goals and two assists.

For Kenyon, Sack added to her conference-best assist total with six, running her season total to 61. She ranks second in the NCAA in assists per game. Symmes posted five goals and one assist with a game-high 11 draw controls.

The loss drops Denison to 12-2 overall and 5-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Kenyon improves to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in the NCAC. The Big Red will return to action this Saturday (April 27) when they host Hiram at 1:00 p.m.
