NCAC-Leading Wittenberg Tops Oberlin

Springfield, Ohio The Wittenberg Tigers showed why they are the top team in the North Coast Athletic Conference as they topped the Yeowomen of Oberlin, 21-5, on Wednesday night.

Grace Barlow and Sarah Andrews each scored two goals for the Yeowomen, while senior Ilyssa Meyer chipped in with the only other Oberlin tally. Andrews also recorded a team-high four draws in the setback.

Meyer netted the game's first goal just 26 seconds in with the help of Barlow, but the Tigers would rip off six straight scores over the next 11 minutes. Rookie Suzanna Doak would assist on Barlow's goal at the 17:36 mark of the first half to make it 6-2, but Wittenberg would score five more goals in the opening stanza. Andrews also recorded her first goal of the game in the half, but Wittenberg led 11-3 at the intermission.

The Yeowomen would score just twice in the second half with goals coming out of the sticks of Barlow and Andrews. However, the Tigers continued to pour it on as they added 10 more scores over the final 30 minutes of play.

Eight different Tigers scored at least one goal in the game with Beth Hubbard leading the way with four goals off of the bench.

Wittenberg out-shot Oberlin 36-17 and won the ground-ball battle 42-35. The Yeowomen were just 15 of 30 clears and were hindered by 36 turnovers.

With the win the Tigers improved to 11-3 overall and remained perfect against NCAC foes at 7-0. The Yeowomen fell to 4-10 and 3-4 in league play.

The Yeowomen will conclude the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Wooster for a 1:00 p.m. showdown.
