Slow Start Sends Grizzlies to Loss at Regis

DENVER-Outshot 46-17, Adams State University suffered its sixth straight loss Wednesday evening on the road against Regis University. The Grizzlies fell by a 20-9 final.

Regis jumped all over ASU early, getting out to an 8-1 lead in the first half of the opening period. Qiana Barfield (Denver, Colo.) would stop the Rangers' run with an unassisted goal and just 12 seconds later, LiErin Wilson (Silverton, Colo.) would score her first of three goals on the evening to cut the Regis lead to five. However, Regis would close the period on a 4-1 run to take a 12-4 lead into halftime.

Wilson would score another goal 1:45 into the second period, but ASU's defense was unable to slow down Regis' powerful offensive attack, as the Rangers put three in a row in the back of the net to extend the lead to 15-5.

ASU's leading scorer Lexy Hamilton (Monte Vista, Colo.) would score a pair of goals and now has 28 on the season. Her average of 2.55 goals per game ranks her third in the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

Adams State goalie Danica Kristiansen (Lake Forest, Calif.) finished the contest with 15 saves.

The Grizzlies now stand at 3-9 overall with one more contest on their schedule. That game will take place at home against league rival Colorado Mesa on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
