Missouri Valley College (Mo.) Adds Men's, Women's Lacrosse

Marshall, Mo. - The Missouri Valley College athletics department has announced the addition of men's and women's lacrosse to the list of varsity athletics offered, beginning in the spring of 2014. Coaches for both programs have been hired.

Kevin Totaro, a native of Fallston, Md. will take the helm of the men's team. Raised in Harford County, Totaro graduated from Harford Tech High School in 2004 where he played football and lacrosse earning second team "all county" lacrosse honors, leading the county in goals scored and was second in overall points. He attended Harford Community College, playing for the school's lacrosse team for two years. Totaro then attended Shenandoah University from 2008-2010, playing Division III lacrosse for the Hornets and serving as senior captain, leading the team in scoring.

Totaro started his coaching career at Northern Virginia Community College as an assistant coach, and was most recently an assistant coach at Catonsville Community College in Baltimore, Md. Totaro has participated in various lacrosse camps and coached the General Lacrosse Club summer team in Virginia as well as a local Baltimore recreation team, along with serving as a volunteer for the Maryland Special Olympics.

C.J. Cuneo will lead the women's lacrosse team. Cuneo graduated from Binghamton University in New York in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in economics. She played on BU's lacrosse team in the goalkeeper position while also working with a local club team, The Long Island Pride. She earned her J.D. from the University of Richmond and is a licensed attorney in Maryland and Virginia.

Most recently, Cueno served as a high school lacrosse coach at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Ky. She has coached at the college level, serving as the assistant coach at Adrian College for the 2012 season. During her time at Adrian College the team was undefeated in conference play and received a bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Prior to her time at Adrian, Cuneo served as head coach at James River High School in Virginia during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. She coached the team to an undefeated conference record in 2011. Cuneo also served an assistant coach at Randolph-Macon College in Virginia in 2009.

"Everyone at Missouri Valley College is excited to add the men's and women's lacrosse programs," Athletic Director Tom Fifer said. "It is exciting for Missouri Valley to be the first Heart of America Athletic Conference member to add lacrosse to the list of our athletic programs."

Fifer adds, "We are very excited to welcome Kevin and C.J. to Missouri Valley College. We feel confident in their abilities to start these programs and add to the winning tradition at Missouri Valley."

With the addition of men's and women's lacrosse Missouri Valley will now offer 26 varsity athletic teams, 13 men's teams, 12 women's teams and one co-ed team.

The lacrosse teams will compete on Reed Kepner Field, located west of Gregg-Mitchell Field on the MVC campus.
