Kutztown Earns Non-Conference Win over Chestnut Hill

KUTZTOWN, Pa. Kutztown played great on both sides of the ball on Thursday afternoon, defeating Chestnut Hill, 11-6, at Keystone Field.

KU opened up the game with the first goal scored by Krystine Beodeker (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) on an assist by Brielle Dickey (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) in the first three minutes of action. The Griffins answered with a goal scored just over three minutes later to even up the scoreboard 1-1.

Katie Feairheller (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) won the draw control for KU to reposition the KU offense on the Griffins' territory. Dickey then utilized a free position shot to score the second goal for KU with 23:32 remaining in the first half.

CHC earned the following draw control and rained down six unsuccessful shots before the Golden Bears took back the offensive advantage. A caused turnover by Kelsey Halligan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) led to Dickey scoring the third goal for KU with less than 15 minutes on the clock.

Chestnut Hill came within one goal again, scoring off a free position shot with less than nine minutes on the clock. Rosa Buffolino (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp) worked to widen the gap again, scoring the fourth goal for KU with an assist by Jillian Spencer (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) less than 30 seconds later.

Spencer scored the fifth goal for KU on an assist by Taylor Sandin (Freehold, NJ/Colt's Neck), followed by Dickey scoring the sixth goal on an assist by Buffolino to take lead the teams into half time 6-2.

The Griffins made the first strike in the beginning of the first half, finding the back of the net after KU goalkeeper JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape) made two preemptive saves. The Golden Bears won the following draw control, but did not find the back of the net in their offensive attack before turning the ball back over to CHC. The Griffins scored their fourth goal with 23 minutes left in the game.

After some back and forth battle on either sides of the field over the next two minutes, Gina Carmina (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) scored the seventh goal for KU on an assist by Buffolino. Just over six minutes later, Sandin scored the eighth goal on an assist by Dickey.

With less than 12 minutes on the clock, Dickey scored her career-high fourth in-game goal, to take the Golden Bears to nine, and to finish 4 for 5 in shots.

As the clock ticked down, Buffolino scored two more goals for KU within two minutes of each other. Chestnut Hill followed with two more goals before the clock ran out, but still finished five goals behind the Golden Bears.

McLaughlin displayed excellent defensive efforts with19 saves to the Griffins' 29 shots. Also on the defensive realm, Randy Vite (Highland Mills, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) led KU with seven ground balls followed by Halligan with six.

The Golden Bears return to action when they travel to Slippery Rock for their season finale on Saturday, April 27 for a 1:00 p.m. start.
