No. 13 Bucknell Tops No. 19 Army in Patriot League Semifinals

Mazzone's three goals paced the Black Knights offense, while Thul and Glesener tallied two goals apiece. Glesener added a pair of assists and tied Mazzone (3G, 1A) with a team-high four points.

The Army defense surrendered double-digit goals for the third time this season. Sophomore Michael Larrabee totaled three caused turnovers while sophomore goalkeeper Sam Somers recorded 12 saves.

The Bison scored the opening three goals over the first 3:34 of the game, while the Black Knights' offense struggled to find its rhythm over the first half of the opening 15 minutes. Once Army found its way, however, it put on a show triggered by Daly winning six of the first eight draws of the game. Junior attackman Alex Carros chased down a long ground ball and fed a lunging Thul for Army's first goal of the day.

Just seconds later Mazzone was credited with his first goal of the day on a deflection at 5:12. The Black Knights' third goal came courtesy of Newsome, as he split defenders and beat Bucknell senior goalkeeper Kyle Feeney low with 2:47 on the clock. Army then took its first lead of the day as senior tri-captain Andrew Boyd threaded a perfect pass to Mazzone, whose close-range goal at 1:47 gave the Black Knights their first lead of the game, 4-3.

Momentum shifted back in Bucknell's direction as the Bison again netted the first three goals of the second quarter and reestablished a 6-4 lead with 7:54 on the clock. Glesener's laser at the 7:39 mark was his first goal of the day and pulled Army back within a single goal, 6-5. The one-goal margin stood at the break, while Daly continued his dominance in the x, winning 10 of 13 bouts in the first half.

Bucknell stretched its lead to 7-5 just 1:01 into the third quarter on a Chase Bailey goal. The Bison went on to match their largest lead since the opening minutes, punching a third EMO goal through midway through its third opportunity at the 8:42 mark.

The teams played through seven scoreless minutes before Bucknell scored the next four goals and established its largest lead of the game, 11-5, midway through the fourth quarter. The Black Knights peppered Feeney with 17 fourth-quarter shots, a stretch during which he surrendered four goals and recorded four saves. Army scored the last three goals of the game over the final 2:24 of the contest, but the damage had already been done as Bucknell hung on for its second victory over Army this season.

Bailey led the Bison with a game-high four goals, while David Dickson handed out a game-high five assists.

The second semifinal game between No. 1 Lehigh and No. 4 Colgate was set to face-off at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
