Saint Vincent Advances To PAC Final After Edging W&J

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Saint Vincent scored five times during an 11-minute span in the second half to earn a 10-9 Presidents' Athletic Conference semifinal victory over Washington & Jefferson Friday night at Thiel's Alumni Stadium.

The inaugural Presidents' Athletic Tournament features Saint Vincent (11-4) and the host Tomcats in the championship game Saturday at 2:00 pm. The Bearcats avenged a 15-11 loss to W&J on Wednesday night.

Similar to the game won by the Presidents 48 hours ago, W&J (4-10) got off to a quick start with three of the first four goals, including a pair by senior midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Pauls School for Girls).

Kaley Burkhardt netted back-to-back tallies to tie the match, but senior attacker Megan Kelly (South Park, Pa./Seton-LaSalle) scored twice for the Presidents in three minutes for a 5-3 lead at the 11:47 mark of the first half. The Bearcats answered once again with the final two goals of the half to force a 5-5 tie after 30 minutes.

Senior midfielder Kelsey Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) set up Kelly for a 6-5 lead nine minutes into the second half before scoring one of her own 58 seconds later.

Nora Posival capped a three-goal SVC spurt with 14:26 left to put the Bearcats in front 8-7, but Fradkin tied the game two minutes later. Alyssa Lang and Posival responded with goals three minutes apart for a 10-8 lead with 7:20 left on the clock.

Kraus brought the Presidents to within 10-9 on a free-position shot with just over six minutes remaining, but that is where the scoring ended for both teams and Saint Vincent escaped with the win.

Senior goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) stopped 15 shots in her final collegiate game. She closed her career with a school-record 534 career saves.

Fradkin netted three goals in her final match as a President to finish with 182 career goals and 210 points (both 3rd in school history). Kelly also scored three in her final NCAA match, while Kraus closed her career with a three-point effort (2 goals, 1 assist). Freshman midfielder Diana Harvey (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) scored W&J's other goal and also dished out one assist.

Lang and Burkhardt led the Bearcats, who outshot the Presidents 29-20, with three goals and one assist. Michelle Mitchell notched six saves.
