Shenandoah Sprints by Randolph-Macon to ODAC Title Game

WINCHESTER, Va. Shenandoah advanced to its first-ever ODAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament championship Saturday afternoon with a 17-5 win over Randolph-Macon on the sun-kissed Sprint Field at Shentel Stadium turf.

Second-seeded Shenandoah (12-4) now advances to the championship next Saturday against either top-seeded Guilford or No. 4 Washington and Lee.

A W&L victory would mean that SU would host the championship game.

The Hornets gave up the first two goals of the game to the Yellow Jackets (12-6), but roared back with three straight Samantha Donaghy goals to take a 3-2 lead.

Macon briefly asnasr with a Janelle Whitman tally on a free position shot at 11:40, but junior Samantha Sisson scored at 10:46 and 9:15 to give coach Lindsey Lutz' club a lead it would not relinquish.

Sisson's first goal, one of four she had on the day, started a 4-0 Shenandoah run to complete the first half.

R-MC scored the initial goal of the second half, by Emily Lynch on a free position shot at 25:33, but this would prove to be the visitors last gasp.

SU ripped off eight straight, including another three by Donaghy, to kick in the 10-goal rule.

The Hornets never let the lead fall into single digits again.

Donaghy closed out the scoring with her career-best seventh goals with 2:02 remaining.

Shenandoah outshot Macon 35-20 and offset a 17-16 advantage in groundballs by winning 17 of 24 draws.

The two goalkeepers, Ashley Cross for SU and Nicole Woodworth for the 'Jackets, split 26 saves.
