No. 2 Adelphi Prevails over Bentley 14-6 on Senior Day

WALTHAM, Mass. Junior Ikerson Hopper and freshman Salvatore Tuttle each had three goals as No. 2 Adelphi proved too much for Bentley University on Saturday, taking a 14-6 win over the Falcons in the regular season finale for both teams.

The defeat means the Falcons will miss the Northeast-10 playoffs for the first time since 2007. They finish with records of 4-8 overall and 4-7 NE-10. Adelphi improves to 12-1 overall and 10-1 in the NE-10, and will be the top seed in next week's NE-10 playoffs.

Adelphi, which has now won three straight, led 6-0 after the first quarter and did not look back. They scored four goals in the first 5:15 of the quarter, and twice in the final 47 seconds.

Senior attack Tim Matheson (Reading, Mass./Reading), one of eight student-athletes from Bentley's class of 2013 honored prior to the game, got the Falcons on the board with a man-up goal at the 8:52 mark of the second quarter. But just 12 seconds later, the Panthers answered right back and went up 7-1 on a goal by sophomore Joe Sciara.

But Bentley scored the final goal of the half at the 1:46 mark from freshman John Blaisdell (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough), one of his two on the day, to cut its deficit to 7-2 at halftime.

Adelphi though came out of the locker rooms strong and scored two quick goals in the third quarter to regain momentum. Sophomore Brian Prendergast scored at the 12:59 mark, and just 11 seconds later, Sciara netted his second of the game to make the score 9-2.

Hopper and Tuttle for Adelphi and Blaisdell for Bentley scored goals before the third quarter ended as the Panthers led 11-3 going into the fourth quarter.

The Falcons had three goals in the final frame, with the goals coming from junior Mike Carter (Walpole, Mass./Thayer Academy), senior Dan Keefer (Wayland, Mass./Wayland) and Matheson, who finished the season leading the team in goals with 16.
