Washington College Pulls Away from McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. Washington (Md.) reeled off a stretch of eight straight goals to break open a 4-all game and defeat McDaniel 13-6 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.

Danielle Entrot (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) led the Green Terror (9-7, 5-4 CC) with two goals and two assists.

Corinne Zziccardi scored four goals to lead the Shorewomen (12-4, 5-4 CC), who will host McDaniel in the CC Tournament First-Round Game on Wednesday. Details on the game and entire conference tournament will be released on Monday following the pre-championship conference calls.

Knotted at 4-all after Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) finished a solo run with 2:50 to play in the first half, Ziccardi put Washington back in front at the break with 1:35 showing.

Liz Godorov pushed the lead to 6-4 nearly six minutes into the second half before free-position tallies from Emily Hubley and Ziccardi made it an 8-4 game with 20:42 remaining.

Two goals from Hubley and a goal and an assist from Mollie Shipley keyed four more tallies over an 11-minute, 41-second span to make it a 12-4 game with 7:11 to play.

Entrot hit a free-position goal to snap a stretch of 28:46 with a goal.

Ziccardi pushed the lead back to eight with 1:43 to play before Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) finished from Entrot 18 seconds later for the final margin.

Anna Molhenrich (Towson, Md./Mercy) scored off an Entrot feed 9:06 into the game for a 1-0 lead before Ziccardi evened the game 70 seconds later.

A Messersmith-to-Entrot connection 27 seconds later put the hosts back in front by one.

Marissa Restaino and Bridget Bopst (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) traded goals to keep it a one-goal advantage for McDaniel with 12:00 showing before Carly Eisenbrandt and Restaino scored 50 seconds apart for a 4-3 edge.

Game time on Wednesday is projected to be at 7:00 p.m. but will be announced officially on Monday.

WESTMINSTER, MD Visiting Washington College broke open a 5-4 halftime lead with the first seven goals of the second half en route to a 13-6 victory over host McDaniel on Saturday afternoon at Gill Stadium in Centennial Conference action. The Shorewomen improve to 12-4 overall and 5-4 in the conference, while the Green Terror drop to 9-7 and 5-4 respectively.

Washington with the victory earned the four seed in the 2013 Centennial Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament and will host McDaniel, the five seed, on Wednesday night in the first round of the tournament and gametime is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The Shorewomen earned the right to host with the victory this afternoon. The two teams will be meeting the conference tournament for the first time. The winner of this game will travel to top seed Gettysburg on Saturday, May 4 in the semifinal round of the conference tournament. The other semifinal for next Saturday is set and that will be #3 Haverford versus #2 Franklin & Marshall at Gettysburg.

Leading 5-4 at halftime, the Shorewomen scored the first seven goals of the second half to break open the game. Washington scored the opening goal of the second half with 24:06 remaining in the contest when sophomore attacker Liz Godorov (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) scored to give the Shorewomen a 6-4 lead. Emily Hubley (West Chester, PA/Bayard Rustin) cashed in on a free position shot to put Washington up 7-4 with 22:41 remaining.

The Shorewomen pushed their lead to four goals, 8-4, with 20:42 left on a Corinne Ziccardi (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) free position score. Senior midfielder Mollie Shipley (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) extended the lead to 9-4 on an unassisted goal with 18:52 left in the contest. Shipley found Hubley for the next goal to put the Shorewomen up by a 10-4 score with 14:14 remaining in the game.
