Vermont Falls to Hartford in America East Action

BURLINGTON, Vt. Kevin O'Shea and Rory Nunamacher combined for 13 points to lead Hartford over Vermont, 17-11, in an America East match-up Saturday afternoon from Virtue Field. Hartford moves to 7-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play and will move on to play in the America East semifinals. Vermont wraps up its season with a 4-10 record overall and a 1-4 mark in league play.

Senior Drew Philie led the way for the Catamounts, tallying a team-high six points on five goals and one assist in his final game at UVM. Graham Horvath also chipped in with three goals and one assist, and senior AJ Masson added two scores in his final game at Vermont.

O'Shea scored a game-high seven goals and also added one assist, while Nunamacher tallied five points on four goals and a helper to pace the Hawks.

Justin Rosenberg got the start in goal for Vermont, and took the loss despite making 13 saves. Frank Piechota earned the win in net for Hartford after stopping eight shots on the day.

Tim Yager opened the scoring for Vermont just over two minutes into play with a goal off a feed from Mark D'Anthony, to even the score at 1-1. Following a second goal from O'Shea, Philie tallied his first of the game off a pass from Patrick Clark, and tied the score 2-2.

With Hartford holding a 3-2 advantage to start the second period, Graham Horvath scored a goal for the Catamounts to again pull them even, 3-all. Both teams traded a pair of scores over the next six minutes, before the Hawks tallied the final two of the period to head into the second half with a two-goal advantage, 7-5.

The Hawks scored the first three goals of the third period, including another from Nunamacher, to pull ahead 10-5 with 9:43 left in the frame. Vermont answered by scoring four of the final five goals of the period, including a pair from Philie, to cut the deficit to 11-9 heading into the final period.

Philie and Horvath tallied two of the first three goals of the final frame, and pulled within one, 12-11, with 6:51 to play in the contest. That was as close as the Catamounts would get, as the Hawks added on insurance goals to close out the Catamounts and earn the 17-11 victory.

Hartford moves on the play in the America East semifinals on May 2 at Stony Brook's LaValle Stadium. Vermont finishes the season at 4-10 overall and 1-4 in America East play.

Notes: Drew Philie ends his career ranked second on the program's all-time goals list (124), fifth in all-time points (176), and 10th in all-time assists (52) ... A.J. Masson ends his Vermont career ranked 11th on the all-time assists list (43) ... Senior Zack Telander added his first assist of the season on a goal from Horvath in the third period ... Seniors Sasha Birge, Michael Connors, A.J. Masson, J.J. Newland, Drew Philie, Augie Remien and Zack Telander all played in their final game at UVM, as they celebrated Senior Day prior to the start of the contest
