Washington & Jefferson Downed at Drew

MADISON, N.J. -- Washington & Jefferson senior attacker Joseph Eck (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) became the Presidents' men's lacrosse all-time leading goal scorer after scoring three times during a 15-8 Landmark Conference loss to Drew on Saturday afternoon.

Eck upped his career goal total to 124 to eclipse the record formerly held by Zach Devilbiss '09 (122 goals). Eck added two assists to finish the day with five points. He also moved past Devilbiss for second place on the career points after his five-point day. Eck now has 173 points (124 goals and 49 assists) which is five away from tying Andrew Wallick '12 for the W&J all-time overall scoring record.

The Presidents (4-10, 0-6) scored three of the four goals during the opening quarter and two goals by sophomore attacker Tim Angell (Andover, Mass./Governor's Academy) during the second quarter gave W&J a 6-4 lead at halftime.

The second half belonged to the Rangers (4-10, 1-5) with 11 goals during the final 30 minutes. Drew scored four times in the third period to open an 8-7 lead before adding seven goals in the fourth.

Eric Tripp led the Rangers with six goals and two assists, while Mike Marone added three assists to his one goal. Drew outshot W&J 49-34 and won 20 of 26 faceoffs.

Eck paced the Presidents' offense, while Angell also scored three times. Junior midfielder Casey Smallwood (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) added two goals and senior goalie Ran Kirby (Cleveland, Ohio/University School) recorded 12 saves.

The Presidents will now compete in the inaugural Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament starting Thursday night at Alexandre Stadium. W&J hosts Thiel in a semifinal match at 7:00 pm.
