Mower Nets Winner as Rams Top Dominican in CACC Semifinal

LAKEWOOD, N.J. Freshman attack Liz Mower (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) showed why she earned the CACC)rookie of the award as she scored a career-high seven goals, including the game winner with 2:12 left, to lift Philadelphia U. over Dominican (N.Y.) 13-12 in a tournament semifinal on Saturday afternoon at Georgian Court.

The Rams improve their overall record to 14-4 and extend their winning streak to eight. Philadelphia-who advances to its first CACC Tournament final since 2011-will take on Holy Family for the conference title. The Tigers needed double overtime to defeat host Georgian Court 15-14. The final will be contested on Sunday, April 28 at noon.

Dominican ends the season at 7-8.

Sophomore attack Allison Brian (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) netted a hat-trick, while junior midfielder Libby Nichols (Ellicott City, Md./McDonogh) scored twice and added a team-high four draw controls. Freshman defender Christine Page (Levittown, N.Y./Macarthur) found the back of the net once and dished out three assists.

Amanda Shelton recorded four points (three goals, one assist) in the loss for the Chargers. Traci-Joan Muniz, Christine Brennan, and Kelly Barbarite scored twice.

Sophomore goaltender Kristen Moran (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) was solid for the Rams as she made a season-high 14 saves. The Chargers' Brittany Kiernan stopped nine shots.

Dominican owned a 30-28 shot advantage.

Philadelphia jumped out to a 6-1 lead midway through the first half behind a pair of goals each from Mower and Brian. The final 14:16 of the half belongs to the Chargers as six different players contributed to a 7-1 surge that gave Dominican an 8-7 halftime advantage.

Brian tied the game just over four minutes into the second half and Mower followed with back-to-back goals to put the Rams ahead 10-8. The teams traded goals until Muniz broke the streak with a free-position shot at the 3:56 mark to knot the score at 12.
