Grizzlies Fall to Colorado Mesa in Season Finale

ALAMOSA, Colo.-Adams State hosted its final game of the 2013 season against the Colorado Mesa Mavericks Saturday afternoon. The first half was back and forth with goals; however, the Mavericks were able to outscore the Grizzlies 8-5, leaving the Grizzlies trailing three at half.

The Grizzlies finish the season 3-10 overall and 2-8 in the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. The Mavericks move to 4-10 overall and 4-6 in WILA play.

With half-time advantage, Colorado Mesa scored three back-to-back goals within the first five minutes of the second half to pull ahead 11-5. The Grizzlies were then able to gain some momentum back after a free position goal scored by junior Amanda Hisel (Conifer, Colo.), who finished the game with four total goals, three of them in the second half.

The Grizzlies came back to life during the second half with five goals. Freshman Kira Williams (Gilbert, Ariz.), sophomore Heather Jones (Littleton, Colo.), and junior Lexy Hamilton (Monte Vista, Colo.) each tallied one goal in the game and junior Megan Daly (Walnut Creek, Calif.) added two goals to the score.

Sophomore Aislinn Stace (Boise, Idaho) and LiErin Wilson both had one assist each for the Grizzlies. Although the Grizzlies had a great effort by all of the players, it wasn't quite enough. The Mavericks came out on top with a final score of 16-10.

Colorado Mesas' Allie Henderson scored four goals, while Ashley Eickoff scored three for the winners. Keri Kopchik also scored a goal and finished with four assists for the Mavericks, who out-shot the Grizzlies, 31-27.

ASU sophomore Danika Kristiansen (Lake Forest, Calif.) was busy in the net making nine saves, six more than the Mavericks' Lauren Wells and eight more than Kady Herzog.

Defensively, Jordan McHenry (Dolores, Colo.) had three caused turnovers and Danika Kristiansen had nine total groundballs.
