Rutgers Drops One-Goal Decision at Cincinnati

Cincinnati, Ohio (April 28, 2013) Rutgers dropped a 9-8 decision to Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon at Sheakley Athletic Center. RU wraps up its season with a 9-8 record, including a 1-7 mark in Big East play.

The Scarlet Knights were paced in points by junior attack Megan Clements (Pennington, N.J.), who posted a goal and a career-high three assists. Junior midfielder Katrina Martinelli (Moorestown, N.J.) and freshman midfielder Chrissy Schreiber (East Meadow, N.Y.) added two goals apiece.

Cincinnati (7-9, 1-7) got on the board first with two tallies over the first 15:40 before Rutgers scored four of the final five goals to take a one-point advantage into the break. Redshirt senior Annie McGinley (Mooretown, N.J.) started the spurt with an unassisted goal at the 13:34 mark. Martinelli posted the next two RU scores and Schreiber beat the horn to give RU a 4-3 lead at the half.

The Scarlet Knights continued their attack in the second half, as Schreiber posted an unassisted goal just over one minute into play. UC pulled within one, 5-4, but Clements corralled a pass from Kolodny and then dished an assist to Jenny Vlahos (Manhasset, N.Y.) to push the RU lead to three, 7-4, at the 18:41 mark.

After the two squads traded scores, UC posted three-straight to knot the game at 8-8 with 3:10 left to play. Controlling the ensuing draw, the Bearcats' Katie Kiriazoglou notched the game-winner with 18 seconds remaining.

Senior goalie Lily Kalata (Nesconset, N.Y.) made five saves, while senior Aimee Chotikul (Baltimore, Md.) was charged with the loss after allowing the final four goals.
