IWLCA Poll for Women's Division I - April 29th

The Maryland Terrapins are a consensus No. 1 for a fifth week in a row, while the Florida Gators earned all 20 No. 2 votes to give the poll a clear 1-2 in the 10th week of the rankings in 2013.

The ACC and the Big East each claim five schools in the list, giving these two conferences combined half of the top-20. The ALC has four schools with Johns Hopkins' return to the poll; the Ivy League is the only other conference with multiple institutions as the Ancient 8 has two schools in the poll.

The ACC, led by top-ranked Maryland, continues to have three schools in the top-10 with North Carolina holding at No. 3 and Duke remaining at No. 7. Virginia jumped to No. 13 while Boston College rose to No. 19.

The Big East also has three schools in the top-nine, with Syracuse at No. 5 and Georgetown rising to a season-high No. 6. Notre Dame remains in the top-10 at No. 9, while Loyola remains at No. 12 and Connecticut moves to No. 18.

The ALC's Florida is a consensus No. 2, while Northwestern remains at No. 4. Penn State stays in the top-10, moving to No. 8 while Johns Hopkins returns to the rankings, coming in at No. 20.

Princeton from the Ivy League moves up to No. 15, just edging conference rival Penn, who holds at No. 16.

Four other conferences each claim one school in the rankings, starting with the America East, who is represented by Stony Brook at No. 10.

Denver from the MPSF starts off the second half of the poll, remaining at No. 11. Atlantic-10 champion Massachusetts moves to No. 14 while Patriot League champion Navy slips to No. 17.

Six conference tournaments take place this week, including the Big East at which all four teams are ranked. On Thursday, No. 6 Georgetown hosts No. 12 Loyola and No. 5 Syracuse takes on No. 18 Connecticut at Georgetown.

All four ranked ALC schools are in competition starting Thursday, with No. 8 Penn State facing Vanderbilt and No. 20 Johns Hopkins taking on Ohio State. Florida faces the Johns Hopkins/Ohio State winner on Friday while No. 4 Northwestern will draw against the Penn State/Vanderbilt winner on the same day. No. 16 Penn hosts the Ivy League tournament; the No. 16 Quakers host Cornell and the No. 15 Princeton Tigers face Dartmouth on Friday. Stony Brook will host the America East championships.

This is the tenth weekly poll of the 2013 season; the next poll will be released on May 7.
