No. 11 Purple Knights Top SNHU to Reach NE-10 Semifinals

COLCHESTER, Vt. - Fourth-seeded Saint Michael's earned a 7-2 Northeast-10 Conference Championship first round victory over fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday at Duffy Field. The win marks the Purple Knights' program-record-tying 11th this season.

The hosts, who are ranked 11th in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national poll, improve to 11-4, while the Penmen finish their season 6-10. Saint Michael's advances to its third consecutive NE-10 Championship semifinal, as it travels to top-ranked Adelphi University for a 4:00 p.m. tilt on Friday. The Panthers are ranked second by the USILA, and their only loss this season came to the Purple Knights, 11-9, on April 13.

Senior Pete Donnally (Madison, N.J./Morristown-Beard School) had two goals and an assist for Saint Michael's, while junior Connor Glackin (South Huntington, N.Y./Saint Anthony's) added a pair of markers. Seniors D.J. Dauria (Sherborn, Mass./Dover-Sherborn) and Marty Vanzo (Westford, Vt./Essex/Vermont) each finished with a goal and an assist, and junior Evan Antolino (Exeter, N.H./Exeter) scored once. Classmate Cooper Quenneville (Shoreham, Vt./Gould Academy) collected seven ground balls and was 5 for 5 on face-offs, senior Neil Kelly (Narragansett, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) totaled six ground balls and four caused turnovers, and sophomore Luke Solms (Bedford, N.H./Northfield Mount Hermon) added five ground balls. Junior Chris DeMairo (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) made 14 saves.

Sophomore Corey Allen (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) scored twice for Southern New Hampshire, while junior Rob Murray (Marblehead, Mass./Gould Academy) picked up a pair of assists. Junior Morgan Weireter (Oak Park, Calif./Tilton School) made 13 stops and picked up six ground balls, and classmate Chris Roach (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) also finished with six ground balls to go along with three caused turnovers.

Glackin's goal with 4:39 elapsed in the opening quarter gave the hosts an early 1-0 lead before Allen netted his first marker 7:15 later to even the score at one apiece. The Purple Knights scored the next three goals, with Vanzo and Dauria scoring during a 3:38 stretch and Donnally netting a man-up marker with 9:09 left in the third quarter. Allen converted his second goal 1:58 later to make the score 4-2 before Antolino netted a man-down goal at 1:45. Saint Michael's increased its advantage to 6-2 when Glackin scored 59 seconds into the fourth, and Donnally added his second with 5:03 remaining in the game to extend the lead to 7-2.
