Seniors Lead Tigers to Victory at Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Kate Krieger tied her career highs with three goals and four points, and Abby Fink steered aside 11 shots as Colorado College finished its 2013 campaign with a 15-10 victory at Colorado Mesa University on Tuesday night.

Frances Staadt also recorded four points with two goals and a pair of assists. Ellie Cole struck for three markers, while Anna Crosby added two goals and an assist to give CC's senior class 10 goals and four assists in their final game.

After the Mavericks pulled to within 8-6 on a tally by junior midfielder Allie Henderson 3:30 into the second half, the Tigers struck for four goals in a span of 3:25, including a pair by Cole just 1:21 apart, to build their biggest lead at 12-6.

Freshman attacker Paige Amme scored twice during a 4-1 run that saw CMU battle back to within three goals with 9:59 to play, but Fink denied Melissa Niedfelt's free-position shot while Colorado College was down two players and the Tigers received tallies from Cole and sophomore defender Kirby Leyshon during the final four minutes to close out the scoring.

Colorado Mesa raced to an early 3-1 lead after Henderson found the net 5:11 into the contest, but Colorado College struck for the next four goals to take a 5-3 lead.

The Tigers finished with a 39-24 edge in total shots and a 34-17 advantage in ground balls.

Crosby paced the CC defense with five ground balls and added four draw controls.

Cole finished her career ranked 12th with 46 assists and 13th with 81 goals and 127 points.

After beginning the season with an 0-6 record, the Tigers won seven of their final 11 games to finish the season with a 7-11 mark.

Henderson and Amme each finished with three markers and an assist for CMU, which completed the year with a 4-11 ledger.
