Sophomore midfielder Chris Eccles (Secane, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) scored 3 straight goals to cap a 7-0 second-quarter fun that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay in a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wittenberg on Wednesday.

Wittenberg had taken 1-0 and 2-1 leads in the first quarter, only to see Eccles answer with a score to tie the game both times. Eccles fed sophomore midfielder Steve Fowler (Wilton, Conn.) early in the second quarter to put the Bishops ahead to stay, then freshman midfielder Phillip Johnson (Dallas, Texas/Jesuit) and freshman attacker Eric Turner (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) followed with goals to stretch the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 5-2.

Fowler scored again before Eccles' 3 straight goals gave Ohio Wesleyan a 9-2 halftime lead. Eccles and Fowler connected once more early in the third quarter to stretch the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 10-2. Wittenberg rallied to within 12-6 midway in the fourth quarter on the strength of 3 goals by sophomore attacker Brandon Hulett (Hilliard/Davidson), but that was as close as the Tigers would come.

Eccles led the Bishops with 6 goals and 3 assists, while Fowler scored 3 goals and Turner finished with a goal and 3 assists. Hulett led Wittenberg with 3 goals. Sophomore Ryan Perone (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) had 9 saves for Ohio Wesleyan, while junior Pat Garlock (Columbus/St. Charles) finished with 12 saves for Wittenberg.
