IWLCA Poll for Women's Division III - May 6th

The Trinity Bantams held on to the No. 1 ranking, but the Salisbury Sea Gulls picked up some room on the reigning champions as these two schools remained 1-2, and there was no movement among the top eight schools from last week's poll.

Ten different conferences claimed at least one school in the top-20, led by the NESCAC with six institutions. The SUNYAC has three schools in the top-20 while the Centennial, Capital Athletic, and Empire 8 each have two schools in the poll.

The NESCAC is led by top-ranked Trinity; the league has half of the top eight schools with Middlebury holding at No. 3, Colby remaining at No. 7, and Bowdoin holding at No. 8. Amherst moved to No. 13 and Hamilton also moved as the Continentals remained in the poll at No. 20.

The SUNYAC's Cortland remained at No. 4 while Geneseo re-enters the poll at No. 17 while Fredonia moves to No. 19.

Both the Centennial Conference and the CAC claim a pair of schools in the top-10. Centennial champion Gettysburg remains at No. 5, just ahead of conference rival Franklin & Marshall at No. 6. CAC champion Salisbury held at No. 2 while York moved up slightly at now sits at No. 9. St. John Fisher defeated Ithaca to win the Empire 8 crown; the Cardinals moved up to No. 12 while Ithaca slid to No. 16.

TCNJ from the NJAC remains in the top-10 at No. 10, while Susquehanna, undefeated in the regular season and champion of the Landmark Conference, starts off the second half of the poll at No. 11. RPI won the Liberty League and rose to No. 14, while Christopher Newport, the USA South champion slid to No. 15 after being idle last week. Stevenson, from the Commonwealth Conference, moved to No. 18.

The NCAA tournament opens on Wednesday with two games pitting ranked teams against each other. No. 14 RPI hosts No. 12 St. John Fisher and No. 11 Susquehanna welcomes No. 17 Geneseo in first round action.

This is the eleventh weekly poll by the IWLCA for the 2013 season; the next poll will be released on May 28.
