Gannon Lacrosse Rolls Past IUP, 22-8

ERIE, PA - The Gannon women's lacrosse team rebounded from a loss to ninth-ranked Philadelphia in its last outing with a 22-8 rout of Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday evening at Gannon University Field. In the process, the Lady Knights posted their fifth victory in the last six matches.

Gannon started the onslaught early, scoring the first three goals. Following IUP's first goal, the Lady Knights rolled off another four goals to grab a 7-1 lead. Colleen Dixon's (Lafayette, N.Y./Lafayette) fourth goal in the first 15 minutes pushed Gannon's lead to six goals with 15:18 remaining in the first half.

The Lady Knights out-scored the Indians 6-4 during the rest of the first half and went to halftime with a 13-5 advantage. Abbey Lighton (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden) netted her fourth goal of the season with eight seconds remaining until halftime.

Gannon then scored the first three goals of the second half and took advantage of a running clock for the final 27 minutes of the match.

Krista Schunk (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Sarah Belen (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) led the offensive onslaught with six goals each. Both players recorded six goals in a match for the third time this season.

Dixon and Shannon Pagano (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) added four and two goals, respectively. Four Lady Knights completed the scoring with one goal each. Pagano also dished out a season-high six assists. The Lady Knights recorded assists on 15 of their 22 goals.

Acacia Cook (Clay, N.Y./Clay N-S) made eight saves in 47 minutes until Shannon Elam (Kennett Square, Pa./West Chester East) protected the net for the final 13 minutes. Elam recorded two saves.

Gannon, ranked 10th in NCAA Division II, improved to 8-5 while Indiana (Pa.) dropped to 3-8. The Lady Knights return to action Saturday, April 22 against Millersville at Mercyhurst College. Game time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
