Salisbury Knocks off Defending Champ Trinity to Win D3 Crown

Trinity sophomore midfielder Caroline Hayes (Greenland, N.H.) scored twice to match two Salisbury goals for a 9-5 tally with just under 20 minutes left in the second half, but the Sea Gulls outscored the Bantams, 3-0, the rest of the way. Wheatley made key saves on shots by Leonhard and Griffin in the middle of the second half, and Salisbury held the ball for the majority of the final 10 minutes.

Trinity controlled the draw in the second half to finish with a 13-6 edge in the category, while Salisbury outshot the Bantams, 21-18. Leonhard and Hayes paced the Bantam offense with two goals apiece, while Hayes notched game-highs of three ground balls and five draw controls, and Leonhard added three draw controls and a team-high caused turnovers.

Feusahrens scored five times for Salisbury, while Koolage totaled a goal, an assist, two ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Wheatley totaled nine saves and Mooney had three stops in the Salisbury and Trinity goals, respectively. Leonhard, Kusiak, and Hayes were named to the all-tournament team for the Bantams. Wheatley was the Final Four MVP.
