Kevin Kelley Named Head Coach of New D2 Rockhurst Program

Kevin Kelley has been selected as the new men's lacrosse coach at Rockhurst University. Men's lacrosse will begin its first year as an intercollegiate program at Rockhurst in 2013-2014. The Hawks will play in the spring season against other college lacrosse programs in the Midwest and Colorado.

"Kevin brings a great deal of experience in motivating, teaching and coaching the sport of lacrosse to young players," said Rockhurst director of athletics Gary Burns. "He works well with students in conveying both the game of lacrosse as well as the importance of character both on and off the field. He will emphasize hard work, fundamentals and a team-first mentality."

Kelley has been the assistant varsity lacrosse coach at Shawnee Mission East High School for the past two years. The Lancers won the Kansas state championship in 2011 and the Lacrosse Association of Kansas City championship in 2012. Kelley also has served as a coach for the Titanium Elite Lacrosse Club.

For the past three years, Kelley was the co-owner and coach of the Kansas City Orange Lacrosse Club. He also spent two seasons as the assistant varsity coach at Rockhurst High School. The Hawklets won the Missouri Division I state championship in 2009 and finished second at state in 2009.

Kelley graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in marketing management. He played on Syracuse's NCAA Division I national championship team in 2000 and national runner-up squad in 1999. He played professionally for the Boston Cannons in 2003 and the Chicago Machine in 2006 in Major League Lacrosse.
