The South took an early lead, 25 seconds into the game as Dugan converted a breakaway after Fugate caused a turnover on the opening draw and the South raced in for a 1-0 lead. The North tied the game up as Stonehill's Kelsey Reilly scored the first of her three goals two minutes later. Fugate scored her first goal after the South got possession after an errant pass went out of bounds. The South went up 3-1 as Justiene Groothuis (Lindenwood) converted a pass from West Chester's Lauren Glassey in the eighth minute of the game.

The North scored the next four goals of the game to take a two-goal lead of their own; the run started with a draw control by Georgian Court's Corrine Coyle that led to a goal by Olen off a feed from Julia Kudla (Lake Erie). Grand Valley State's Allyson Fritts scored just over a minute later to tie the game at 3-3, and a draw control by Cori Geiger (Bentley) led to a goal by Dowling's Nicolle Moran to give the North their first lead of the game at 4-3. Moran scored again, converting a feed from Kudla to go up 5-3 with 13:40 remaining in the first half.

Limestone's Chelsea Treat from the South pulled her squad within one two minutes later, and an 8-meter goal by Fugate tied the score at 5-5 with 9:15 to play. Reilly won the draw for the North and Geiger scored with an assist from Olen to put their squad back on top 6-5, but the South answered right back as West Chester's Jamie Dolan won the draw and fed Bloomsburg's Samantha Mazzie for a goal 38 seconds later.

The South retook the lead as Minner scored her second goal with 2:45 to play in the half, but an unassisted goal by Fritts with 19 seconds left in the half tied the game at 7-7 and the teams entered the break with that score.

The teams traded the next four goals, with the South going up 8-7 on Minner's second goal off a pass from Fugate before Geiger converted an Olen feed to tie the game for a sixth time. IUP's Alexa Lodovici scored to give the South a 9-8 lead, but a Fritts draw control led to a goal by Stonehill's Kayla Green for the seventh tie of the game.

The South went up by two as Treat scored her second goal of the game off a feed by Lodovici and Mazzie scored an unassisted goal just over a minute later to lead 11-9. After Reilly won the draw for the North, Olen scored to pull within one. An 8-meter goal by Slippery Rock's Holly Webb pushed the margin back to two at 12-10 with 11:05 to play.
