Dana Hall Steps Down at UMW to Become Senior Associate AD

Long-time University of Mary Washington coach and athletic administrator Dana Hall has been promoted to the full-time administrative role of Senior Associate Director of Athletics effective immediately, according to UMW Athletic Director Ken Tyler. Hall, who coached the field hockey and women's lacrosse teams simultaneously for 21 years and lacrosse for the past 23 seasons, will step down from her coaching duties as she transitions into her new role.

"I am very pleased that Dana has accepted our offer to become Senior Associate Director of Athletics", said Tyler on Saturday. "During her long and illustrious coaching career, she has had a positive impact on countless student-athletes. I look forward to working with her in this new role for the benefit of the entire department and I know she will do a great job."

Hall has been an assistant athletic director in addition to her coaching duties for more than 10 years. She presently serves as the department's Senior Woman's Administrator, runs the UMW Student-Athlete Advisory Council, and spearheads such annual events as the department's canned food drive and adopt-a-family outreach during the holidays.

Since taking over the field hockey and lacrosse programs at UMW in the fall of 1990, Hall's teams advanced to 16 NCAA Championships, including in 10 of the past 14 years in lacrosse. Named the 2001 NCAA Division III National Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year by 360Lacrosse.com, Hall also was named national coach of the year in field hockey in 1993. With a career lacrosse coaching record of 260-149 and a career field hockey coaching record of 276-126-3, Hall won 536 games as a collegiate coach, with a career winning percentage of .663.

A multi-sport athlete at Frostburg State University, Hall earned all-state honors in both field hockey and lacrosse for the Bobcats. An associate professor of health and physical education, Hall is a mother of two daughters and a grandmother of four. She resides in Spotsylvania, Va.

A national search for a new head women's lacrosse coach will commence immediately. Applications will be accepted at careers.umw.edu through June 27.
