Fairfield Lacrosse Announces Incoming Freshmen for 2013-2014

Fairfield University head men's lacrosse coach Andy Copelan announced 16 additions to the Stags roster that will enroll at Fairfield in September as members of the Class of 2017.

Tyler Behring (Little Silver, N.J.) Matt Borda (Kensington, Md.), Phil Boukas (Manhasset, N.Y.), Will Collopy (Glen Rock, N.J.), Brandon Cortazar (Dix Hills, N.Y.), Dan DeLaney (Sudbury, Mass.), Andrew Eidenshink (Wyncote, Pa.), David Fleming (San Carlos, Calif.), Christopher Giorgio (Sudbury, Mass.), Jake Kaiser(Ridgefield, Conn.), Jake Knotsman (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), Tom Lavelle (Manhasset, N.Y.), Nico Panepinto (Needham, Mass.) Conor Walsh (Rumson, N.J.), Jay Walsh (Duxbury, Mass.), and Logan Williamson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) comprise the incoming rookie class for the Stags.

"We set out to add depth at every position and in the process feel that we increased our IQ, overall athleticism and toughness," said Copelan. "While we return a pretty upper-class roster, it wouldn't surprise me to see a couple of these guys make an early impact. Equally as important, I think this class will aid in the transition to the very challenging CAA in 2015."

Behring joins the Stags after a four-year varsity career at Berkshire School, where as a goalkeeper he helped lead the Bears to 43 wins. He stopped 562 shots over the course of his career and was named the team MVP in each of the past three seasons. As a senior, Behring posted a GAA of 6.0 and stopped 65 percent of the shots he faced as he earned his third consecutive All-League selection and was named to the Western New England Prep School West All-Star Team.

Borda earned four varsity letters as a defenseman at Gonzaga College High School, helping the Eagles to 78 wins and four WCAC Championships. A senior captain, he scooped up 88 ground balls in 2013 to earn US Lacrosse All-America, Washington Post First Team All-MET and First Team All-WCAC honors and was named the team MPV. Borda finished with 273 career ground balls and contributed 15 goals and 20 assists, as he received recognition from the WCAC in all four seasons.

Boukas comes to Fairfield after four-year career at Manhasset High School that saw the Indians win 71 games and a 2013 conference crown. A defenseman, Boukas was named a USILA All-America this spring as well as earning Academic All-County accolades.

Collopy stopped 56 percent of the shots that he faced in four seasons at Don Bosco Prep and topped off his career with a 2013 New Jersey Non Public A State Championship. He helped backstop the Ironmen to 51 wins in the past three seasons, earning First Team All-Country in 2012 following an 18-1 campaign. Collopy helped Don Bosco to consecutive County crowns the past two seasons, including an 18-1 mark as a junior when he earned All-State Honorable Mention honors.

Cortazar earned two varsity letters at St. Anthony's High School, helping the squad to the 2012 CHSAA State title. He was part of 25 varsity wins and over the course of four years scored 53 times with 24 assists, with seven goals and eight assists during his senior season.

Delaney earned four varsity letters as he helped Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School to a 59-12 record in that time span. As a team captain his senior season he tallied 40 goals, with 24 assists, in 16 games played. Delaney was named a DCL All-Star in 2013 and was named the 2011 Prepstar Sophomore of the Year in 2011.

Eidenshink earned three varsity letters at LaSalle College High School, playing a role in 49 victories during his career. He was part of the Explorers 2010 and '12 District 12 championships, finishing as PIAA runner-ups both seasons. Eidenshink was named All-State and All-Catholic following a 15-win senior campaign, and was a Second Team All-Catholic selection as a sophomore.
