Results of the 2013 Vail Lacrosse Shootout Day 1

Day one of the 2013 Vail Lacrosse Shootout saw action in two of the tournaments divisions. The Grandmasters (ages 50+) and the Supermasters (ages 40+) took to various fields around the valley and kicked off the action for the 41st Shootout. Youth players ages 12 and under also played in the three-on-three Chumash tournament. Rain and lightning threatened to ruin the end of day's play, but games continued after only a brief delay.

Tomorrow's play will double from two to four divisions as the U-19 Boys' and Girls' tournaments get underway in Avon and Edwards. On Ford Field, the Grandmasters semifinals start at 8:30 am followed by the second day of Supermasters pool play.

Supermasters (40+)

Elder Statesman 7, Princeton BCLF 3
The level of play was outstanding on both ends. Possessions were tight and both teams valued the ball, executing good offensive movement. In the end, it was the rapid-fire ball movement of Folder that knocked four goals in the first 15 minutes of the first half, and Princeton BCLF was unable to recover.

C2C Magic Wands 12, CoBiz 1
Drew Wendol scored five goals for Magic Wands. John Marano was 6/10 on face offs and added one goal for Magic Wands. Jeff Wyatt went coast to coast for CoBiz's only, but impressive nonetheless, goal.

Moondoggies 8, Team ARTA 2
This game appeared to be fairly evenly matched through the first ten minutes, with neither team holding onto the ball for decent periods of time or getting good looks. The Moondoggies opened up the second half with measured possessions and a flurry of goals. By the end of the game, the Moondoggies had ARTA well in hand and were decisively controlling the game.

Yellow Dog 5, Navy Old Goats 1
Yellow Dog came to play and only allowed the Goats one goal. Both teams fought hard, but it was Yellow Dog who was able to consistently get the ball in the net.

C2C Magic Wands 12, Arizona Wildfire 2
Attackmen Mahoney and Gugglielmo were to thank for the Magic Wand's win with three goals apiece.

Navy Old Goats 6, CoBiz 4
CoBiz came up from behind four goals in the second half to tie 4-4. Navy responded with a quick two goals in three minutes. Jeff Devistra led Navy to a victory with four goals.

Elder Statesmen 9, Middlebury 3
The Statesmen came ready to play again in their second game of the day. Middlebury struggled with completions on offense.

Princeton BCLF 10, ARTA 3
The Princeton offense controlled the ball and steadily added to the scoreboard. On the other end of the field, the Princeton defense permitted only a few goals while forcing turnovers and denying clear attempts.

Yellowdog 13, Arizona Wildfire 0
Yellow Dog defense shut down the Arizona Wildfire offense and only allowed seven shots during the entire game. S. Fuselier scored four of the Yellow Dog goals.

Moondoggies 7, Middlebury 6
