Engster to Lead Sweet Briar Lacrosse as New Head Coach

SWEET BRIAR, Va. -- Sweet Briar College Director of Athletics and Chair of Physical Education Kelly Morrison has announced the appointment of Hayley Engster as head lacrosse coach.

Coach Engster is well acquainted with the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The former Lynchburg College defender was a four-year starter for the Hornets (2003-2007). Engster captained the 2007 squad during her senior year. Also while at LC, she was named to the Director of Athletics Honor Roll, earned dean's list, garnered academic all-conference honors, and was selected a student-athlete advisory committee member.

Upon graduating Lynchburg College with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology, the Salisbury native worked as an assistant women's lacrosse coach at Goucher College. After the year with the Gophers, Engster became an assistant director and women's lacrosse coach with Diamonds Lacrosse (2009-2011), a prominent all-girl's lacrosse club in Baltimore, Md.

During her tenure with Diamonds Lacrosse, Engster held head coach positions at St. Paul's School for Girls (Brooklandville, Md.) and The Park School (Baltimore, Md.).

In May 2013, Engster earned a master's degree from Salisbury University in Applied Health Physiology with a focus on strength and conditioning. During her two-year graduate candidacy, Engster served as a graduate assistant for the Applied Health graduate program and worked as a strength and conditioning coach in the Sea Gulls athletics department.

On the appointment, Morrison commented, "returning players wanted their new coach to push them to the next level. Coach Engster's knowledge of the game, coaching experience and strength and conditioning background have well prepared her for this position." Morrison continued, "On the recruiting trail, Vixen lacrosse and Sweet Briar College will also benefit from Engster's ties to girl's lacrosse in the mid-atlantic region."

Head Coach Hayley Engster shared, "I would like to thank Athletics Director Kelly Morrison, the Sweet Briar administration and members of the Vixen Lacrosse team for this incredible opportunity. I am eager to share my knowledge, experience, and passion for lacrosse with the team."

In addition to head coach responsibilities, Engster will also serve as the assistant director of athletic facilities.
