Wingate Adds Seven More to 2013-2014 Recruiting Class

Wingate, N.C.---Wingate University head lacrosse coach Caline Olmsted announced the addition of seven new student-athletes to the 2013 recruiting class. The newcomers hail from Florida and California.

Midfielders Alexis Holland (Ocala, Fla.) and Kaelin Evans (San Marcos, Calif.), defensemen Leslie Valderramos (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Morgan Insel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), goalkeeper Jayda Lynch (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and attack/midfielders Natalie Quinchia (Davie, Fla.) and Laura Swanson (Plantation, Fla.) plan to study and play at Wingate University.

Holland played at Forest High School for head coach Kyle Strausser. She led the Wildcats in interceptions, ground balls, caused turnovers and shots on goal. Holland was rewarded for her efforts by being named her team's Most Valuable Player. She was her team's captain her junior and senior year and ended her high school career with 19 goals, 11 assists, 30 points, 23 shots on goal, 40 ground balls, four interceptions and nine caused turnovers. Holland was on the National Team her junior and senior year.

Swanson, Quinchia, Valderramos, Insel and Lynch were teammates at South Plantation High School under the direction of head coach Hilary Grimes. In her junior season, Swanson recorded 14 goals and eight assists and dramatically improved upon those numbers in 2013 (her senior season), when she was the team leader in both categories with 50 goals and 15 assists. Swanson was a team captain her junior and senior years.

Evans played at San Marcos High School for head coach Bob Meder. She was a two-year team captain for the SMHS Royals. Evans' mom (Angela Hooper) played NCAA Division I volleyball at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

In June, Olmsted signed attacks Alexus Hess (Emmitsburg, Md.), Danielle Barbeito (Myersville, Md.) and Logan Bounds (Salisbury, Md.), midfielders Cydnie Decomo (Glen Burnie, Md.), Kendall Sienon (Woodstock, Ga.) and Logan Sutton (Charlotte, N.C.) and defensemen Katelyn Hartman (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Sequoia Crider (Hillsborough, N.C.). Sutton is a sophomore transfer from Appalachian State; Hess, Barbeito, Bounds, Decomo, Sienon, Hartman and Crider are incoming freshmen.
