Elms College Sails Past Emerson, 15-4

CHICOPEE, MA, April 21, 2006 - Elms College sophomore defense wing Caitlin Childs (Hingham, MA) netted a game-high four goals and senior goalkeeper Sheila Murphy (Holyoke, MA) turned aside 13 shots to help carry the Blazers to a 15-4 win over Emerson College in Friday's New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) game at Leary Field.

With the win, Elms College snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 2-11 overall, 1-4 NEWLA. Emerson lost its fourth straight game and fell to 3-7 overall, 1-5 NEWLA.

The Blazers pulled away from a 3-2 lead by netting four unanswered goals in the final 14:06 of the opening half to take a 7-2 halftime lead.

Childs netted a pair of goals in each half to run her team-leading total to 28 on the season.

Sophomore center Lauren O'Donnell (Hampden, MA) and junior attack wing Carrie Allard (Springfield, MA) added three goals apiece for the Blazers, who scored six of the first seven goals in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Junior attack wing Audrey Barr (Gilmanton, NH), junior defense wing Heather Sands (Westbrook, ME), freshman attack wing Taryn Benesta (Long Branch, NJ) and freshman attack wing Caitlin Wilson (Quincy, MA) each netted a goal for the Lions in the loss.

Elms College concludes its regular season when it hosts Thomas College in a NEWLA contest on Sunday, April 23. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
