Boston U. Announces Inaugural Lacrosse Recruiting Class

BOSTON - Boston University head men's lacrosse coach Ryan Polley announced the program's inaugural recruiting class on Monday. Thirty-one true freshmen will help comprise the Terriers' first-ever roster when the program begins varsity play in the 2013-14 season.

"This is a historic day for the Boston University men's lacrosse program," Polley said. "I am so excited to announce our inaugural recruiting class. These 31 young men will play an integral role in creating the foundation for the successful future of BU lacrosse. This group was selected not only for its superior play on the field but also for its leadership skills, its work ethic and its performance in the classroom. What also really excites me about this class is that it's a perfect mix of successful players from traditional lacrosse hotbeds and historically powerful programs combined with talented players from some of the most rapidly developing areas and high school programs."

The Class of 2017 includes seven US Lacrosse All-America selections from this past year and 10 athletes who, as seniors, helped guide their respective teams to state titles. The Terriers hail from 12 different states and one Canadian province.

In addition to the 31 true freshmen, three transfers will be part of the program's inaugural season, including one from 2013 national finalist Syracuse.

"I will look to this group to be leaders and mentors both on and off the field," Polley said. "My hope is they will draw from their previous collegiate experiences to help us set a fast-paced practice environment and a team work ethic that is second to none."

Brian Badgett (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City)
Captained Garden City to its second consecutive state title during his senior season ... Part of top-ranked team in the nation during his junior season ... Earned All-County honors and was Team MVP as a senior ... Part of state runner-up as a sophomore.

Polley on Badgett: "Brian is a very versatile player from a great program who we envision doing a lot of things for us. He's going to play on the wing on faceoffs, be a defensive midfielder and play some offense for us."

Brendan Barrett (West Caldwell, N.J./Seton Hall Prep)
Led Seton Hall Prep in goals (30) and points (46) as a senior captain ... Helped guide team to state title game in 2013 ... Was a first-line midfielder as a junior ... Captained the JV team as a sophomore and was also a captain on the freshman team.

Polley on Barrett: "Brendan was our first commit. We're real excited about his ability. He's a very good time and room shooter, he's someone that can stretch the defense and is a good off-ball player. We see Brendan competing for significant minutes at the left-hand attack spot."

Chad Bell (San Francisco, Calif./Saint Ignatius College Prep)
Played four seasons at Saint Ignatius College Prep ... Captained team to WCAL championship in his senior season, earning All-America and First-Team WCAL honors ... Also helped team win conference title in his sophomore and junior years ... Won Gait Cup with Alcatraz Outlaws during his junior year ... Was a Las Vegas Tournament All-Star as a sophomore ... Named outstanding offensive player of the year as a freshman.

Polley on Bell: "Chad played for one of the top programs on the West Coast and he was a big part of their success. He's a very versatile player. He's a good dodger from the midfield. We expect him to do a lot for us and compete to be one of the top six offensive midfielders."
