Boston U. Announces Inaugural Lacrosse Recruiting Class

Polley on Dearth: "Cal is an incredibly athletic midfielder who can run as fast as anybody. He shoots the ball very well and will definitely contribute for us right away. He is probably the most improved guy from the time we recruited him until he finished his senior season. He turned into a great offensive player."

Justin Diamond (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt)
Played three seasons of varsity lacrosse at Jamesville Dewitt High School ... Won section championship in each of his final two seasons ... Helped team win state title as a sophomore ... Played for the CNY Arrows as a freshman.

Polley on Diamond: "Justin played on one of the top high school teams in the country and was a major contributor before an injury cut back his playing time towards the end of the year. He's very slick, has very good hands and is a very good left-handed time and room shooter."

Steve Gagliardi (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township)
Played four years of varsity lacrosse at Washington Township High School ... Captained squad during senior season in which he earned his third consecutive First Team All-Conference honor ... Helped team win Gloucester County championship during his sophomore season.

Polley on Gagliardi: "He's a quick lefty attackman with good hands and is a very good ball handler. He's very versatile and will compete for time at both midfield and attack. He's a guy we think has very good offensive skills."

Alec Hoag (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa)
Played two seasons of varsity lacrosse at Mira Costa High School ... Earned Second Team All-League honors as a senior ... Also played club lacrosse for the Los Angeles Lazers, West Coast Starz and Adrenaline Tropics.

Polley on Hoag: "Alec is a faceoff guy from the Los Angeles area who had a very nice senior season. He has very quick hands, is very good off the whistle and will compete for playing time at the faceoff position."

Casey Irish (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep)
Named a 2013 US Lacrosse All-American after captaining Lake Highland Prep to a state title ... Earned First Team All-Central Florida honors as a senior and was named Lake Highland's Most Valuable Defenseman ... Helped team reach state title game as a junior and earned First Team All-Central Florida honors ... Named Under Armour Underclass All-American in 2012 ... Named team's Rookie of the Year in 2011 as he helped Lake Highland win state title ... Also captained varsity football team and was the defensive MVP.

Polley on Irish: "Casey played a huge role in his team capturing the Florida state championship. An outstanding football player as well, Casey will add a physical presence to our defense."

Ryan Johnston (Elora, Ont./Hill Academy)
Played for Hill Academy in Ontario ... Helped Hill advance to finals of North American Lacrosse Invitational as a senior ... Part of NALI championship squad as a sophomore ... Also played for Edge Prep ... Played box lacrosse for the Elora Mohawks.

Polley on Johnston: "He's a righty attack who is a very good finisher and who can shoot the ball with time and room. He comes from a great program in the Hill Academy and hopefully he can do some big things for us."

Billy Kane (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach)
Played only two full varsity seasons at Long Beach High School due to injury ... Served as captain during his senior year but only played five games ...
