Detroit Lacrosse Brings Two More Recruits Aboard for 2014

DETROIT (7/15/2013) -- University of Detroit Mercy lacrosse head coach Laura Maness has announced that Annelise Niermann (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) and Jaclyn Snyder (South Lyon, Mich./Ladywood) will join the Titans for the 2014 season. Both will enroll as freshmen and start classes in the fall of 2013.

The duo joins the foursome of Kelsi Pritchard (Orillia, Ont./Patrick Fogarty), Julie Castner (Orlando, Fla./University), Lauren Sharkey (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) and Miklain Huntsman (Salt Lake City, Utah, Skyline) for the 2013-14 academic year.

"Both Annelise and Jaclyn round out our recruiting class nicely," said Maness, who will start her third year at the helm of the Titans in 2013-14. "Both athletes have made impressive contributions to their local Michigan high school programs and I look forward to having all six athletes as part of our team. I believe that their individual strengths will complement our current roster and our overall team will grow and improve this upcoming season."

Niermann earned four letters in lacrosse playing at Canton High School, taking home All-League honors and Scholar Athlete recognition in each of her final three years of school. She also garnered the All-State Academic award and Plymouth-Canton Education All-Park Team her junior and senior years, and in her final season of play, she was named an All-State honorable mention. She holds the record for most points in a season with 66 her senior year, including 43 goals. Niermann also played club lacrosse with the Detroit Coyotes for the past two seasons and will see a familiar face from playing with the Coyotes in 2014 signee Lauren Sharkey.

"Annelise is a smart player who sees the field well and is very solid offensively. She will be joining her club teammate Lauren Sharkey on the field," added Maness. Snyder will also know someone on the roster as she played for the Ladywood Blazers with current Titan sophomore Kylie Birney (Plymouth, Mich./Ladywood). Snyder was a senior captain in 2013 and captured the team's MVP award. She garnered All-League, All-Catholic, and All-State Second Team honors last season as she helped the Blazers to the State Finals. Snyder tallied three goals and an assist to help Ladywood reach the State Finals for the first time in the school's history as the squad finished with a 15-3 overall record.

"Jaclyn will bring her speed and scrappiness to help support our midfield, and will also be rejoining high school teammate Kylie Birney," stated Maness.

The Titans were 5-14 overall this past season and 3-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference, entering the tournament as the No. 2 seed and advanced to the inaugural Atlantic Sun Championship game. Junior goalkeeper Lexie McCormick (Peterborough, Ont./St. Peters) was named the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year, while 2013 UDM graduate Zaynib Hamze (Dublin, Calif./Dublin) took home the league's Player of the Year. A total of eight Titans were named to either the All-Conference First or Second Team, while three players were named to the All-Conference Freshmen Team and three more to the Academic All-Conference Team.
