MCLA Appoints Georgia Tech's Ken Lovic as New President

The Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association announced that Ken Lovic, former Executive Committee member and head coach at Georgia Tech, has been appointed as President of the MCLA.

"I look forward to working with both the Executive Committee and Board of Directors to lead the MCLA into the future." said Lovic.

"This is really all about enhancing the student-athlete experience in the sport of Men's lacrosse for institutions not served by the NCAA. We have certain challenges but by working collaboratively we can overcome them and continue to build and serve our constituent base."

Ken's appointment comes after the decision of the Board of Directors not to support the Executive Committee's selection of Gary Podesta, Vice President of Competition as President. The Board's action triggered the Executive Committee to revisit the process of identifying a successor to outgoing MCLA President Tony Scazzero who resigned earlier last month.

"The process to replace a President who resigns mid-term was unprecedented in the organization's history." according to Mike Annala, MCLA Treasurer and Interim President.

"The Executive Committee followed procedures outlined in the the bylaws to replace the President and interviewed both Ken and Gary, two candidates who had served the MCLA capably for many years" said Annala. Based on the interview process and conversations with selected MCLA coaches, the Executive Committee selected Gary Podesta for the position. Shortly after the announcement, a majority of the Board of Directors voted not to accept the Executive Committee's selection.

"I appreciate the confidence in my vision and ability to lead the MCLA that the Executive Committee voiced in my selection last month and I respect the process as outlined by our corporate by-laws for the succession of the President. I am very disappointed, as I looked forward to continuing the steady growth and development of our association but the Board of Directors (made up of the directors of the member conferences) felt otherwise. I will continue in my current role as Vice-President of Competition" said Podesta.
