Shenandoah Adds a Pair of Assistant Coaches to Lacrosse Staff

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University head women's lacrosse coach Lindsey Lutz announced Tuesday a pair of new assistants into her program.

Lutz, preparing for her sixth season at the helm of the Hornets, is bringing Sydney Anderson '13 and Lauren Bezmen on to her staff for the coming season.

Bezmen, a Long Island, N.Y. native, comes to Shenandoah after graduating from St. Francis (Pa.) University this past May.

Bezmen played in 35 games during her Red Flash career and had a career-best three goals and one assist in her senior year while primarily playing defense.

She graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Francis with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education and Special Education.

Off the field, she was named to the Dean's List and St. Francis Athletic Honor Roll all four years and was an IWLCA Academic Honor Roll honoree in 2012.

Anderson, part of Lutz first recruiting class at Shenandoah, was a three-year starter for the Hornets at attack before moving to defense her senior year.

As the squad's sole captain in 2013, Anderson led the squad to 12 wins including its first-ever victories over Mary Washington, Lynchburg, Roanoke and Washington and Lee.

The 10-9 win over UMW in the season opener was also the team's first over a ranked opponent.

Anderson earned one All-League honor during her career, played in a third-best-in-school-history 63 games and had an even 100 points on 57 goals and 43 assists during that span.

"I am so happy to welcome Lauren into our family and have Sydney take on an assistant coaching role this season," Lutz said.

"I have watched Syd grow up in her four years here and she has taken to coaching with a great deal of enthusiasm.

"I know that Lauren feels the same way about starting her coaching career here. I think both of them are going to be great teachers of the game and will be a huge help to me as we attempt to take our program to the next level."

Shenandoah, which has won a combined 37 games in the past three seasons, opens its 2014 campaign in mid-February at longtime DIII power Mary Washington.
