Finals Set for Sunday at Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Classic

The championships for the final day of the 24th annual Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Classic are set, with several games on tap that should provide an exciting display of high-level lacrosse.

In the men's Open 1 division, the Big Red Steelheads - a team made up of mostly players from Cornell - and Power-Tek - the 2012 men's Open 1 champions - are set to face-off at Sunday at 1:30 p.m. on North Elba Athletic Field 1. Both teams earned one-goal victories to reach the finals. The Cornell squad downed Select Sector SPDRs, a team loaded with current and recent college standouts, 10-9 in overtime. Power-Tek, another team fielding a mix of college stars, rallied to score two late goals to edge Team Steak out of New England 9-8.

The men's Open 2 division will see Stixx-N-Stones out of Connecticut face Albany-based Power Strangers on North Elba Athletic Field 3 at 1:30 p.m. Through Saturday, Stixx-N-Stones had scored 30 goals and allowed 21 and the Power Strangers had scored 38 and given up 23, as both teams sat at 3-0 heading into Sunday's match-up. To get to the final, Stixx-N-Stones beat the Buffalo Soldiers 10-5 and the Power Strangers defeated the CNY Roadhawks 15-7.

The men's Master's 1 division title features two New York-based Summit Classic powers, as the reigning champion Burnt Orange Syracuse alumni team will face Graph-Tex, a team based in Cortland and loaded with many former college players from the Central New York area. The Burnt Orange haven't been touched, outscoring their opponents by a combined 29-12 margin, including a 10-4 win over the Big Red Steelheads masters squad to advance to the finals. Graph-Tex has scored 38 goals and given up 20, including an 11-8 decision over a powerful Motive Pure/Force 5 team to reach the championship match-up, which is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on North Elba Athletic Field 2.

In the men's Masters 2 bracket, Harpoon/Native Staffing - with players from Baltimore to New England - will meet the Olden Flyers, a Nazareth College alumni team. Both teams sit at 3-0. Harpoon/Native Staffing got past CNY Power 8-5 Saturday to advance to the title game, which is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.on North Elba Athletic Field 1. The Olden Flyers downed the Burnt Too Syracuse alumni team 9-5 on Saturday.

The men's Masters 3 division championship will be decided at 10:30 a.m. Sunday on North Elba Athletic Field 5. Pure Performance, a team with a mix of former college players from Albany, New England and other areas, will face the Brown State squad, a Brown University alumni team. Both teams have been dominant, as Pure Performance outscored its first three opponents 49-10 and Brown State put up 35 goals and allowed only 14 through three contests.

In the women's Open 1 division, Liberty Lacrosse is scheduled to face Team HLA/X10 at 2:00 p.m. on North Elba Athletic Field 6, and in the women's Open 2 division, Prestige Worldwide will face Baby Blue at 1:00 p.m. on North Elba Athletic Field 6. Team Steak Continues Tradition of New England's Best at the Summit Classic
Team Steak, organized by Matt Rowley from Boston, Mass., has become a Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Classic tradition in bringing many of the best college-aged players from New England to the tournament each summer.

Started six years ago with members of the New England Select Lacrosse League (also known as NESLL), the team has blossomed into a powerhouse in the men's Open 1 division, which is considered one of the summer's most competitive tournaments.
