UDM MLax Volunteers Time at Angels' Place

BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. (8/26/2013) -- The 2013 University of Detroit Mercy MAAC championship men's lacrosse team got a little workout in this past Saturday as players and coaches volunteered some time for a great cause at the Angels' Place Family Fun Day at Country Day Middle School in Beverly Hills, Mich.

"This is a great organization and a great event and I am glad that they let us be a part of it," said Titan assistant coach Chris Kolon. "One of the missions of the University is service and we like to take advantage of these opportunities when we can. The guys have been great here, interacting with everyone and having fun and it's an honor to be a part of an event like this."

The players and coaches were on hand for live interaction with all the participants, giving lessons on lacrosse and allowing all a chance to score some goals. UDM even gave a lesson to Dora the Explorer and to Paws of the Detroit Tigers, letting Paws get in the cage for a chance to stop a few shots.

The event which also featured music, games, a food tent, prizes, inflatables and rock climbing - helps support Angels' Place to continue to provide quality homes and services for persons with developmental disabilities.

"I just got back to campus and was told about the event and got some of the freshmen and some of the older guys to get here and help out," said junior defenseman Chris Shevins. "It is a great day for everyone and just coming out here and giving more kids a chance to see lacrosse and teach them will only help the game and the University of Detroit Mercy."

Angels' Place has sixteen homes that provide specialized residential care, supported independent living, and community based services to over 150 individuals, with homes in Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties. Also, through its Abundant Life Services, Angels' Place provides transitional services, educational workshops, community supports for those living on their own, respite programs for caregivers, and many other types of outreach.
