Thomas More (Ky.) Adding Div. III Lacrosse for 2014-2015

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. Thomas More College President David A. Armstrong, J.D. and Athletic Director Terry Connor announced that the College will be adding women's lacrosse as a varsity sport during the 2014-2015 academic year.

Women's lacrosse is the fastest-growing team sport in the United States, according to the most recent research by the Sports Marketing Surveys USA. The addition of women's lacrosse will bring the total number of athletic teams at Thomas More to 19 (10 women and nine men).

"I am very excited to build upon the tremendously successful athletic tradition that has been built at Thomas More College," said David A. Armstrong, J.D., president of Thomas More College. "Adding to the athletic and leadership opportunities for female athletes is particularly appealing and appropriate given the history and origins of the College. This is one more avenue that will allow our students to develop intellectually, physically and spiritually which is the hallmark of the Thomas More College experience."

The team will play in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, which will officially sponsor a championship in women's lacrosse during the 2014-15 academic year. Currently, Saint Vincent College, Thiel College, Washington & Jefferson College and Waynesburg University sponsor women's lacrosse as a varsity sport.

"Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States," said Terry Connor director of athletic of Thomas More College. "After researching the popularity of the game from youth levels all the way to the pro levels, we believe that lacrosse will provide us another level to showcase our student-athletes at Thomas More."

The Saints will play their home matches at the College's on-campus Bank of Kentucky Field.

A national search for a head coach will be begin immediately, and once hired, the coach will spend the 2013-14 academic year recruiting.
