Niagara Hires Jill Maier as Assistant Lacrosse Coach

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. Niagara University and second-year head coach Wendy Stone has hired Jill Maier, a 2013 graduate of Hofstra University, as an assistant coach for the women's lacrosse team.

"I am extremely excited to welcome Jill to Niagara and our lacrosse family," Stone said. "She was an integral part of the Hofstra University women's lacrosse program for the past four years, and our program will benefit tremendously from her experience. Jill brings with her not only a deep understanding and extensive knowledge of the game, but also tremendous experience coaching with the Lady Roc Lacrosse Elite Travel Team and at camps throughout New York State."

Maier comes to Niagara as a four-year varsity starter for Hofstra, where in 195 games with the Pride, she compiled 96 goals and 16 assists for 112 points. A 2011 first team All-CAA pick and a 2010 CAA All-Rookie selection, Maier was the Pride's best draw control specialist as she led Hofstra with 128 in her career to rank fourth all-time in program history.

She has held the head coaching position for the Lady Roc Lacrosse squad since 2009. During her time at Hofstra, Maier took part in clinics that required her to develop and model instruction for middle and high school players, while also refereeing.

"We are fortunate to have someone with such a tremendous work ethic and passion for the game on staff," added Stone. "I look forward to working with her both on and off the field."

Maier was a stellar in the classroom as well, recently named an IWLCA Scholar-Athlete of the Year for 2013 which recognizes excellence in the classroom and on the field. The 2012 Colonial Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women's lacrosse honoree was a member of the Provost's List six times during her undergraduate career, a member of the Dean's List on multiple occasions and four strait Colonial Athletic Association Commissioner's Academic Award winner.

The Honeoye Fall, N.Y. native earned her undergraduate degree in English with a concentration in American Literature and Early Childhood and Childhood Education.
