Patrick Hart Takes Over as Skidmore's Head Lacrosse Coach

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.- Skidmore College has named Patrick Hart head men's lacrosse coach. Hart recently completed his third year as an assistant coach at Amherst College after two seasons as an assistant at the College of the Holy Cross.

"We are excited to have Patrick join our Skidmore team as he will be a great addition to our department," said Gail Cummings-Danson, Skidmore athletics director. "His understanding of blending a rigorous academic experience with a successful athletic experience make him a perfect choice to lead our men's lacrosse team.

"Patrick comes to us with the passion, enthusiasm and coaching knowledge necessary to take over our men's lacrosse program. He is a tremendous fit both as a mentor and knowledgeable coach and we feel fortunate to have him guiding the young men in our program."

Amherst compiled a 29-20 overall record in Hart's three years, including three consecutive New England Small College Athletic Conference tournament appearances and the team's first NCAA tournament appearance in 2011. Amherst also set a program record for wins in 2011 (15)and was ranked as high as second nationally in 2012.

Hart played a key role in recruiting the Amherst Class of 2016 that was the most productive in the history of the program, producing 110 points and two defensive first-year starters.

A standout player at Holy Cross, Hart scored four goals and assisted on 12 others in 43 career games as a midfielder. A 2005 graduate with a degree in Economics, he received the program's John H. Price Award as a senior, which is given to a member of the team who best exemplifies the ideal set forth by former captain John H. Price, as "a man for others."

"I would like to thank Gail Cummings-Danson, Rochelle Calhoun, the search committee and the entire administration at Skidmore College for providing me the opportunity to become a head coach at an academic institution that values so many of the core principles that I believe in." Hart said. "Skidmore's mission to inspire, challenge, and support the pursuit of excellence in all its students is something that I am proud to represent.

"I am excited to begin working with the student-athletes from the Skidmore men's lacrosse family who are passionate about competing athletically and excelling in the classroom. With my previous experience as a student-athlete and assistant coach at liberal arts institutions, I couldn't be more excited about the academic model that Skidmore has created. When you combine the academic prestige of Skidmore with the ability to compete in one of the finest lacrosse conferences at the Division III level, I could not ask for a better opportunity."

While at Holy Cross, Hart was a member of the Patriot League Honor Roll and was a mentor in the Worcester Big Brother Program. A native of Wyckoff, N.J., he served as assistant lacrosse coach and math teacher at the Portsmouth Abbey School from 2005-07 before working as a financial recruiter at Michael Page International.
