Whistle Named First Head Lacrosse Coach at Grand Canyon

Trey Whistle has been named the first head coach of the Grand Canyon University women's lacrosse team. The Lady Lopes will compete in 2013-2014 as a provisional member in the Western Woman's Lacrosse League. The WWLL is one of 10 conferences in the Woman's Collegiate Lacrosse Association, which has over 160 teams competing in two divisions across the country.

"There is nothing like another season of Lope Lacrosse, the sport has been in my life for many years and the opportunity that I have been given means the world to me" said Whistle.

Whistle is no stranger to the GCU campus. This will be his 6th year involved with lacrosse. He has three years NCAA experience, and was a MCLA All-American in 2012 for the 5th ranked Lopes. Last year he served as an assistant coach for the Antelopes, who finished 12th in the Nike MCLA National poll.

"Growing up while watching my sister and cousin play really showed me the foundation of the women's game. I am excited to get out there and make things happen."
