Bayhawks Trade Sebastiani, 1st-Round Pick for Denver's Megill

ANNAPOLIS, MD First-year defenseman Brian Megill has been acquired by the Bayhawks in another trade with the Denver Outlaws according to head coach Dave Cottle. In exchange for Megill, Denver will receive midfielder Dom Sebastiani and the 8th pick in the 2014 Collegiate Draft.

"This trade was one that was built on two teams having great depth in two different positions," Cottle said. "Denver had great numbers and strength at defense and the Bayhawks were strong at short stick d-middie. Dom gets a chance to start at shorty and Brian helps us get more athletic and quicker at close defense. It will be a trade that helps both teams."

Megill was drafted 7th overall in the 2013 MLL draft by Denver. The rookie played in 9 games with the Outlaws and picked up 26 ground balls. A USILA Second Team All-American at Syracuse and one of the 25 nominees for the Tewaaraton Award, Megill was ranked fifth in the NCAA in individual caused turnovers per game and a member of the Big East All-Tournament Team.

DENVER The Outlaws have acquired midfielder Dom Sebastiani and a first-round pick (8th overall) in the 2014 MLL Collegiate Draft from the Chesapeake Bayhawks in exchange for defenseman Brian Megill, the team announced on Monday.

"Dom Sebastiani makes us a better all-around lacrosse team and especially at the defensive end of the field," General Manager Tony Seaman said. "He had an outstanding playoff with the Bayhawks and will be a positive addition to our team. We also were looking to make our team younger through the college draft and by picking up a first round draft choice this trade will help us accomplish that goal."

Denver now has three draft picks in the first two rounds of the 2014 Collegiate Draft, which will take place on Friday, Jan. 10 in Philadelphia.

Sebastiani completed his first MLL season in 2013, picking up five ground balls in five regular-season games and one playoff contest for the Bayhawks. He appeared in the team's 10-9 victory in the league's championship game.

The 6-foot, 190-pound midfielder was drafted 32nd overall by the Bayhawks during the 2013 Collegiate Draft out of Delaware.

"I've only heard positive things about the Outlaws organization and played there once this past season," Sebastiani said. "It is such an amazing stadium. I think my game fits well with Outlaws. They like a fast, transition-style of lacrosse and I've always loved playing like that. "

Megill played nine games for Denver as a rookie in 2013. His 26 ground balls ranked sixth on the squad and his nine appearances tied Eric Law for the most games by a rookie last season. Megill was drafted by Denver in the first round (7th overall) in the 2013 MLL Collegiate Draft.

Monday's trade marks the second deal between the Outlaws and Bayhawks of the 2013-14 offseason. Denver acquired attackman John Grant Jr., defenseman Michael Simon and the 16th pick in the 2014 Collegiate Draft from the Bayhawks in exchange for attackman Brendan Mundorf on Friday, Sept. 6.

The club also assigned midfielder Landon Carr to its practice squad and waived midfielder Dylan Sheridan on Monday.
