Winthrop Adds Boissonneault, Vasconcellos as Lacrosse Assts.

ROCK HILL, SC Winthrop lacrosse coach John Sung has announced the hiring Emily Boissonneault as an assistant coach and Melinda Vasconcellos as a graduate assistant for the upcoming year.

Boissonneault, a native of Whitby, Ontario, Canada, comes to Winthrop after a successful playing career at the University of Detroit Mercy. She played for the Titans from 2009-2012 where she holds school career records in goals, points, total shots, shots on goal and caused turnovers. She graduated from Detroit Mercy in 2012 with a degree in English and Special Education.

In addition to her collegiate playing experience, she represented Canada at the 2013 Women's Lacrosse World Cup held this past summer in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada where her team won a silver medal.

Boissonneault's previous coaching experience comes with Bloomfield Women's Lacrosse where she was the head coach and facilitator since April 2011.

Vasconcellos is a native of North Brunswick, NJ and comes to Winthrop after graduating this past May from Presbyterian College where she received a degree in Applied Math. She played for the Blue Hose for four years where she was twice named to the National Lacrosse Conference All-Academic Team.

Vasconcellos has previously coached with Carolina Ladies Lacrosse which is based out of the South Charlotte area. There she worked with the middle and high school athletes as the defensive coordinator and ground ball and draw expert.

2014 will participate in four events this fall, starting with the Winthrop Play Day on September 22 when the Eagles host Liberty, Limestone, Kennesaw State, Presbyterian, Coastal Carolina and Pfeiffer.
