Amanda Mathews Joins Wm. & Mary Lacrosse Coaching Staff

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Sept. 10, 2013)-William and Mary lacrosse head coach Hillary Fratzke has announced the hiring of Amanda Mathews as an assistant coach.

While Mathews will be instrumental with both defensive and offensive strategy, her primary responsibilities will also include recruiting, team travel arrangements and acting as the community service coordinator.

"We are so excited to round out our staff with the addition of Amanda Mathews," Fratzke said. "Not only was Amanda a great player at James Madison University, she is an energetic and passionate person with a wealth of knowledge for the sport. She will be a great role model for the players with her work ethic and ability to lead those around her."

Mathews joins the Tribe staff after a standout playing career at James Madison, where she helped the Dukes earn a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances, while compiling an overall record of 54-19 and a conference mark of 25-3. A three-year starter, she served as a team captain during her senior season and was selected to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Tournament Team last spring.

"I would like to thank Terry Driscoll and Hillary Fratzke for giving me this opportunity to coach at the Division I level at the College of William and Mary," Mathews said.

"I am extremely excited to be a part of the Tribe family where there is so much focus and effort put into both academics and athletics. I cannot wait to coach in the CAA after playing at James Madison and experiencing the level of competition it entails. I look forward to working with Hillary and Mary while continuing and building upon the success that the William and Mary lacrosse program has achieved."

In addition to her impressive resume as a player, Mathews has assisted with lacrosse camps at the University of Michigan, US Naval Academy and JMU. She has also provided one-on-one instruction as a personal lacrosse trainer.

A native of Ellicott City, Md., Mathews earned a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology from JMU in May of 2013.
