Becca Block, Lily Kalata Join Vermont Lacrosse Coaching Staff

BURLINGTON, Vt. University of Vermont lacrosse head coach Jen Johnson has announced the additions of Becca Block and Lily Kalata to the coaching staff. The two new assistants will join the Catamounts for the 2013-14 season.

"We are very excited to welcome Lily and Becca to our coaching staff. As players both Lily and Becca had outstanding playing careers and were instrumental to their team's success. They are both great leaders and role models, and their enthusiasm is contagious," commented Johnson. "With a young team this year, their innovative ideas and passion for the game will greatly assist us. They were both coached by some of the greatest minds in the game and we are excited to have them join our UVM family," added Johnson.

Block comes to Vermont after spending four years as a defender at Syracuse, where she helped lead the Orange to a Big East Championship and the national title game in 2012.

Block was a two-time IWLCA Division I All-American, and was also named the IWLCA Defender of the Year her senior season. She also collected Big East Defender of the Year and Synapse Sports Defender of the Year honors that same season.

A two-time Big East First Team All-Conference selection, Block was also nominated for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award in 2013, and was on the U.S. National Senior Team roster from 2012-14.

Block earned a bachelor's degree in health and exercise sciences from the Syracuse School of Education this past year.

Kalata joins the UVM coaching staff after spending her collegiate career at Rutgers, where the former team captain started every game of her career for the Scarlet Knights.

Kalata, a goalkeeper, began her standout career by earning a All-Rookie Team selection in 2010. She went on to collect both Regional First Team All-American and IWLCA Third Team All-American honors in her senior season, after finishing ninth in the nation in goals against average (8.01), and 15th in save percentage (.456).

Kalata earned her degree in communication and information from Rutgers this past year.
