Marquette Player Accused of Using LSD, Assaulting Officer

Charley Gargano (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore), a redshirt sophomore defenseman on the Marquette men's lacrosse team, was charged with "substantial battery with intended bodily harm" as a result of an incident last Sunday in which he struck a Department of Public Safety officer, who "sustained a nasal fracture and broken orbital bone in her face and received eight stitches above her left eye."

Gargano was engaged in an altercation when approached by officers and and was described as behaving very erratically. Earlier, he had apparently attended a concert, where he reportedly took LSD four times.

If convicted of the charge, Gargano could face up to a $10,000 fine and a prison sentence of three and a half years. He has been suspended indefinitely from the lacrosse team.
