Catamounts Announce Schedule for the 2014 Lacrosse Season

BURLINGTON, Vt. - University of Vermont released its 17-game schedule this afternoon. The Catamounts will host nine home games at Virtue Field, and will face four teams that finished last season ranked in the top-20 of the deBeer Media Poll.

Vermont opens the season facing Colgate for the third consecutive year, as the Catamounts play host to the Raiders on Feb. 15 in the season opener. The following weekend, UVM travels to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take on Marist in its first road game of the year on Feb. 22.

Vermont travels for its first back-to-back road games of the season at Fairfield and Quinnipiac on March 8 and 12. The Catamounts then return to Burlington for home games against Sacred Heart (March 15) and Massachusetts (March 18). UMass went 18-3 last season and finished ranked 11th in the deBeer Media Poll.

On March 26, Vermont plays host to Dartmouth, which finished ranked 16th in the final media poll of last season. The Catamounts open America East play three days later on March 29 at New Hampshire, and follow that up with their conference home opener on April 5 versus last season's America East runner-up, Albany.

The Catamounts hit the road to face UMBC on April 12 before finishing up their non-conference schedule with a tilt at Boston College on April 16. The Eagles won their final seven regular season games last year, finishing with the No. 20 rank in the deBeer Poll.

The regular season wraps up with two home games for Vermont, as the Catamounts host Binghamton on April 19, and face last year's conference champions Stony Brook on April 26.

The top four teams in the regular season will advance to the America East tournament, with the semifinals set for May 1 and the championship game on May 3. Both games will be played at the field of the highest remaining seed.

UVM advanced to the semifinals of the America East tournament a season ago after finishing the year with a 7-11 record overall and a 2-4 mark in league play. The Catamounts had a program-record seven student-athletes named to all-conference teams, including Sydney Mas, who moved into first place in all-time points in program history during the year.

The Catamounts return 91% of their scoring from a season ago, including top-scorers Sydney Mas (60 pts), Jessica Roach (51) and Vanessa VanderZalm (34). Charlotte Lyons returns in net after starting 15 games and posting a .410 save percentage and 12.39 goals against average in 2013.
