New Assistant Lacrosse Coaches Named at Amherst, Skidmore

"Andrew has been schooled by some of the finest minds in the game of college lacrosse. His experience as a player working with Bill Tierney, Matt Brown, Jamie Munroe, and John Torpey, all have shaped his passion for coaching individuals far beyond the game of lacrosse. He shares with us, philosophically, that coaching lacrosse extends well beyond the sewed lines on our turf. To make genuine connections, to think analytically about the game, about recruiting and to be creative about the methods he uses to teach are all important pieces to his philosophy that drew us to Andrew. We all couldn't be more excited to have him with us as we move forward."

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.--Skidmore College athletic director Gail Cummings-Danson and head coach Patrick Hart have announced two additions to the men's lacrosse coaching staff. The Thoroughbreds have hired Taylor Mendoza as their top assistant coach, and Ryan Hotaling will join the program as a volunteer assistant.

Mendoza is a recent graduate from SUNY Cortland where he was a 3-year member of the Red Dragons lacrosse program as a midfielder playing for Head Coach Steve Beville. While Mendoza was at Cortland, the Red Dragons amassed a 56-5 record, reaching the NCAA quarterfinals in 2011, the NCAA Championship Game in 2012, and the NCAA Semifinals in 2013. Mendoza appeared in 54 games at Cortland, collecting 16 Goals, and 5 assists in his career. He graduated with a degree in Business and Economics.

Prior to Cortland, Mendoza attended the US Military Academy and did a prep year at the Salisbury School in Connecticut. He grew up in North Carolina where he graduated from West Guilford HS. He has also gained coaching experience at the youth and high school levels from his time at Camp Wildwood in Bridgton, Maine and Myers Park High School in North Carolina.

Coach Hart on Mendoza: "I am thrilled to have someone of Taylor's background join the Skidmore Men's Lacrosse program. Taylor comes from a culture at Cortland where toughness, work ethic, and accountability are the pillars of their success. Through the interview process he emerged as a candidate who is mature beyond his years, has strong communication skills, and the work ethic necessary to help our program reach our goals. Taylor also displayed a strong eye for identifying talent which will be critical to our recruiting efforts. Most importantly, he is a young man of character that I know our student-athletes will be able to look to as a mentor."

Hotaling, a resident of Saratoga Springs, is a 2007 graduate of Nazareth College where he was a three-time All-American including first team honors in 2005, and 2007. Ryan had a 58-13 career record at Nazareth with three E8 titles and three NCAA Tournament berths. Ryan has playing experience in the MLL as a field professional, and is entering his 5th season as a player in the NLL as a member of the Philadelphia Wings.

Coach Hart on Hotaling: "We are so fortunate to have Ryan as part of our program. There aren't many playing resumes that rival Ryan Hotaling's. His successes at the collegiate and professional levels are incredibly impressive. Ryan has a great demeanor and immediately commands respect from the guys he coaches. He will be an incredible resource for us especially on the offensive side of the ball - working with our attackmen."

Hart added about the staff additions, "The thing that both Taylor and Ryan bring to our program is a culture of repeated and sustained success. They both have experienced team and personal achievements that our student-athletes will be able to learn from. They have competed at the highest level of Division III lacrosse and understand the foundation necessary to achieve reach those heights. I am so happy to have them contribute to the culture that we are growing here at Skidmore."

The Thoroughbreds will be concluding their fall season with the "Face off for a Cause" at Siena College in support of the Wounded Warrior Project this Sunday the 13th.
