8th Sticks for Soldiers Charity Lacrosse Tourney in CT Nov. 30

Jim Tommins, the tournament chairman and Chris Parisi, Ludlowe Head Coach agree, "Holding this tournament is the least we can do for brave soldiers like Captain Harrow and Specialist Pesce. These guys have sacrificed so much defending our freedom, and face significant challenges in their future."

"We can't thank our soldiers and their families enough for their sacrifices. This is our small way to help and say 'Thank You'", said Coach Chris Parisi. "This charity tournament continues to grow every year, as word of its special mission spreads through the Tri-state area and beyond. High schools are entering 2 and 3 teams, and undertaking their own fundraising to help these soldiers."

"There is still more that we can do." Tommins added, " In the first 7 years, we have directly helped 6 severely -injured soldiers to enhance their lives by raising over $225,000 since the tournament began."

Tournament registration is by email confirmation (currently it is full with a wait list.) Team sign-in begins at 8:00 am with first games at 9:00. A mid-day ceremony introducing and recognizing the honorees will be capped by a keynote address given by Norwalk native, Brien McMahon and West Point graduate, US Army Captain Christopher Couch, a decorated Army Officer and former classmate and team mate of Cpt. Harrow.

Participating high schools include host Fairfield Ludlowe, Fairfield Warde, Fairfield Prep, Ridgefield, Hopkins, St. Josephs, Notre Dame- Fairfield, Barlow, Amity, Staples, Hamden, Cheshire, Newtown, Guilford, Stamford, Southington, Darien, Brien McMahon, Weston, Xavier and others. The competition will be excellent, and the tournament "winner" will be the honorees themselves.

Donations may also be sent, payable to "Sticks for Soldiers, Inc.", PO Box 475, Fairfield, Conn. 06824. Sticks for Soldiers is a non-profit high school charity lacrosse tournament held in Fairfield, Connecticut to raise money for wounded troops. Held on Thanksgiving Saturday, it is sponsored by the Fairfield Ludlowe High School lacrosse team. The primary mission of the tournament is to provide support and give thanks to the service men and women who put their lives on the line and sacrificed for our country.

A secondary objective is to create awareness among high school athletes to the sacrifices being made by people just a few years older than themselves. Through their play and fund-raising participation, the athletes demonstrate their tangible thanks and support. Started in 2006, the idea came from long-time lacrosse advocate Mike Voucas with support by Fairfield Ludlowe Head Coach Chris Parisi and a number of dedicated volunteers.

The tournament and related fund-raising efforts has now raised over $225,000 in 7 years. Sticks for Soldiers, Inc. is established under the IRS code for a 501(c)3 non-profit charity. FEIN 46-0962202. Its application is pending since October 2012, with confirmation expected by April 2014.
