Yale Class of 2017 Looks to Make Immediate Contributions

NEW HAVEN, Conn. Looking to continue the momentum of last season, when the Bulldogs posted their best win total in five years, Yale welcomes 10 freshmen to the roster for the 2014 season. The Class of 2017 represents seven different states. The group is composed of three attackers, three defenders, three midfielders and one midfielder/defender.

The newcomers bring an impressive list of accomplishments both on and off the field to New Haven. The group includes an Under Armour Underclass All-Star who is interested in service trips to third world countries, a New England Prep School Women's Lacrosse Association All Star who has been involved in raising money for cancer treatment and research for five years, a back-to-back Fairfield Athletic Association champion who spent the past two summers interning at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York, a first team All-Long Island selection who volunteered at an animal shelter, an Under Armour All-American who spent the past two summers interning at Estee Lauder, an honorable mention All-American who is the first person in her family to attend an American university, a two-time Academic All-American who has made two service trips to South Africa, a back-to-back state champion who also earned Academic All-American honors, an All-American who co-founded an Equestrian Service Club that provides activities and therapies for the emotionally, mentally and physically challenged, and a tri-varsity captain who was an Academic All-American.

This will be the Bulldogs' sixth season with Anne Phillips as the Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Lacrosse. Yale lost two players from last year's team to graduation. Last season the team continued to show progress, scoring 32 more goals than the previous season (a 23 percent increase) while cutting its shots allowed by 32 and posting its lowest goals-allowed total since 2010.
